Kuulea joins Climate Commitment

Kuulea’s goals for environmental responsibility are ambitious. Our main goal is to mitigate climate change, which has been one of the cornerstones of our strategy since the company was founded. We want to operate both as an exemplary and responsible company and to help our own customers achieve their own climate goals with our ecological high-performance computing and heating services. We are not striving for carbon neutrality - our ambition is driving us further, to carbon negativity.

Over the past six months, we have calculated our emissions in accordance with the GHG protocol and made emission reduction plans based on them. With the help of these emission calculations and emission reduction plans, we applied to be part of Climate Commitment of the Finnish Chamber of Commerce.

The GHG protocol is a global standard for calculating the carbon footprint and it classifies emission sources into three categories: the organization’s own emissions (Scope 1), indirect emissions from purchasing energy production (Scope 2) and other indirect emissions in the organization’s value chain (Scope 3). We found out which Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are most relevant to our own business. We at Kuulea want to take full care of the carbon footprint of our business, which is why we also included the Scope 3 level, which measures the carbon footprint of our services.

We will be carbon neutral through offsetting in 2021 and our goal is to achieve carbon negativity by 2022.

For those emissions that we cannot cut, we will offset through the Gold Standard Climate + Portfolio. With compensation, the use of our Kuulea COMPUTING and HEATING services sequesters as much carbon dioxide as the use of their services. In addition to this, we do climate action with the Finnish 4H Seedling campaign. In the future, our goal is to promote increasingly carbon-neutral practices in all our operations.

The Sustainability Committee of the Finnish Chamber of Commerce approved Kuulea as one of the first pioneering companies to pursue carbon neutrality.
